Vassily Polenov – Universal Man

28 April 2024 – 30 June 2024
Dear friends!
We invite you to the exhibition “Vassily Polenov – Universal Man”, which will be held from 28th April to 30th June 2024 in the Fachwerk. Visitors will be able to see paintings and graphic works, arts and crafts, photographs, architectural projects. The exhibition will feature works from the collections of the Abramtsevo Museum-Reserve and the Polenov Museum-Reserve.

The exhibition is planned as a large inter-museum project and will be held on two venues: at the Fachwerk exhibition hall in Polenovo and at the Polenovskaya Dacha in Abramtsevo.

The aim of the show is to tell about the different aspects and  activities of the famous artist.

In 2024 we celebrate 180 years since the birth of V.D. Polenov. But his work is amazingly relevant to this moment. Polenov is well known as a landscape painter: “Moscow Courtyard”, “Grandmother’s Garden”, “Overgrown Pond”. But the main work of his life, the artist himself called the gospel cycle of paintings “From the Life of Christ”. With the Abramtsevo church and, mainly, the estate on the bank of the Oka River, created by him according to his designs, we can safely say that Polenov was an outstanding architect. “I love all the arts, all of them are dear to me, I was studying architecture, I enjoyed poetry and sculpture, and I am living with painting and music,” – so he wrote in one of his letters. In all of Vasily Polenov’s works his “universalism” is clearly seen.

Tickets are available at the museum’s ticket office in the Guided Tours  Centre or on the museum’s website.
