The Family History Center in Tula

V.D. Polenov State Fine Arts Museum and Natural Reserve, located in the Tula region, is a vivid example of work around family history. The museum has significant experience in creating a holistic world of tangible and intangible heritage. The carefully preserved everyday life of the artist Vassily Polenov and his descendants has acquired great value over time. An important part of Polenov’s heritage: preserving traditions and creation of the family chronicles, cataloging, archiving and organising regular exhibitions on this topic – all this has become the fundamental activity of the new Family History Center – a branch of the POLENOVO Museum.

The residents of Tula and the Tula region, like many other people all over the world, are actively engaged in their own genealogy studies. The new space within the Museum Quarter of Tula provides the opportunity to get acquainted with other families’ experience and  provokes you to do your own research.

The Family History Center plans to study oral and written family history in a participatory way in order to build up a people’s archive here. The Center’s activities include: displays, based on family archives, extensive educational activities, public programs for all ages.

The Family History Center  was opened in October 2020.
